Christmas Medical Safari

Every year tens of thousands of the Uganda’s children die from curable / preventable infectious diseases or suffer unnecessary ill health because they do not have access to basic healthcare services, including essential medicines. Unfortunately majority of the diseases suffered are preventable and curable but unfortunately access/ reach to a health facility is out of reach or unaffordable.

Pentagon Communication in conjunction with Ministry of Health , Glaxosmithkline , PACE , Uganda Health marketing Group and various sponsors launched a Christmas Medical Safari The objective of the campaign was to offer a memorable Christmas for the children below the age of 15 years, plus their mothers through offering them an opportunity to Smile through offering them free medical treatment and counseling to mothers on community based management of common childhood illnesses including malaria, diarrhoea, and pneumonia.

The Christmas Medical Safari was flagged of on 2nd December 2010 after a flag off by the Director of Health Services Dr. Kenya Mugisha. The medical safari ran for two weeks covering four districts in Eastern Uganda i.e Bukedea, Katakwi, Amuria and Kaberamaido.

It was an exciting experience and more than 12,000 children and their mothers were offered a chance to Smile.
